Great work Brett. Looks great. Just had our last frost (🤞). Your system is very similar to mine.

Try doing a transplant of tokyo market type turnips when putting in zukes. Or seed two weeks ahead of transplanting zukes.

Hey Bart, thank you! And thanks for the tip. I’m not familiar with that type of turnip, but I’ll check it out. How do you seed turnips? By hand? We have a Jang seeder but I’m having trouble getting the spacing right on it. Always seems like too many, too close.

Too many too close invites maggots. Growing in bunches does pretty good. I do this with beets, winter radishes and rutabagas (gives 2 harvests of baby baseball sized rutabagas then the last one grows huge).

They grow fast and are super creamy sweet.

To transplant I seed 5 in a 1.5” soil block (about a 50 cell plug tray equivalent). and plant at 12” spacing.

Seeding, I use an Earthway at home. I use a Jang at another site.

With yhe earthway one can tape off seed notches. I imagine with a Jang you could fill the seed cups on the wheel. Maybe do a Fimo cast then glue it in with a ‘breakable’ glue for removal?

This is 10 days ago. Summer just barely starting. You can see in second row from right dome winter radishes planted in that way.

It looks like I am going to enjoy reading your accomplishments!!! I am still learning about our property garden wise.... good grief, but I love the trial and error. Originally this property was a landscape beauty and behemoth.... and 25 years younger.... it was easy... added gardening and soon it's a job... one of love .... Still entering your mid 80's it becomes a lot, not a burden but still a lot. So now simplifying is the object and getting things to be self maintaining (if possible). So overlooking your ideas makes me happy and tonight I'll bury myself reading it.... thank you

I am astounded by the size of your zucchini plants! Our haven't even germinated yet, and won't be in such an advanced stage as yours for about 2 more months... You must have some special microclimate in your garden...? I am very impressed by your beautiful garden, & I believe you conduct your crops wonderfully, audience or no audience, making each vegetable reach its full potential, like a conductor helping each instrument shine, to be poetic.
